Is Crimea gone? Annexation no longer the focus of Ukraine crisis

No comments :

John Kerry talks Ukraine with Russia

In diplomacy, like in sales, success often depends on making your adversaries believe they proposed the result you wanted.
By that measure, Russian President Vladimir Putin appears to have closed the sale on annexing Crimea from Ukraine.
On Monday, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev visited the region that Moscow now claims over international protests, while Russia also said it was withdrawing a battalion of infantry troops from the tens of thousands deployed near the border with eastern Ukraine.
Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts focus on defusing the immediate threat of armed conflict and setting up a negotiating process, rather than necessarily reversing the Crimean annexation.
Here are some questions and answers on how we got here and what to expect:
What's the story?
The Ukraine crisis has its roots in the breakup of the Soviet Union more than two decades ago. A country of deep ethnic and cultural divisions, it comprises a more ethnic Russian population in the East and a more ethnic Ukrainian population in the West, including Kiev, the capital.
Months of increasingly violent political protests in Kiev over the government's reluctance to expanded relations with the European Union culminated in a February 21 agreement that called for constitutional changes and new elections.
What's the latest?
As tension climbed, Putin called President Barack Obama last Friday and the two leaders agreed that their top diplomats would try to find an opening for negotiations on resolving the crisis.
In four hours of talks on Sunday in Paris, Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov focused on easing the border tension and working out a formula for a negotiating process that includes the Ukraine government.
Afterward, Kerry told reporters that both governments agreed on the need for a diplomatic solution, and that the goal for now was de-escalating the crisis to allow for further talks.
However, he never directly mentioned Crimea or its annexation and he didn't repeat an earlier U.S. demand that Russian troops leave Crimea.
"Both sides made suggestions on ways to de-escalate the security and political situation in and around Ukraine," Kerry said. "We also agreed to work with the Ukrainian government and the people to implement the steps that they are taking to assure the following priorities: the rights of national minorities, language rights, demobilization and disarmament of the regular forces and provocateurs, an inclusive constitutional reform process, and free and fair elections monitored by the international community."
His bottom line? "No decisions about Ukraine without Ukraine."
Meanwhile, Monday's movement of Russian troops -- whether a real withdrawal or symbolic shift --signaled Moscow's acceptance that the Kerry-Lavrov talks yielded some progress.
"If reports that Russia is removing some troops from the border region are accurate, it would be a welcome preliminary step," State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said Monday.
what does it all mean?
Two weeks ago, Ukrainian President Oleksandr Turchynov declared that his country was willing to hold talks with Russia, "but we will never accept the annexing of our territory."
While Kerry alluded to the Crimea annexation on Sunday, calling Russia's "actions" illegal and illegitimate, he also noted that "Russia obviously has long ties and serious interests" in Ukraine.
In tense, defiant Ukraine border region, prayers are for peace -- unless peace fails
In Washington, Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California made a similar point earlier Sunday on CNN, saying that Crimea is "dominantly Russian."
She sounded resolved that the peninsula with a majority ethnic Russian population now had returned to Moscow's provenance, as Putin wanted all along.
"A referendum was passed. That, I think, has been done," said Feinstein, who chairs the Senate Intelligence Committee. "But Ukraine is a different subject."
Her acknowledgment clashes with Obama and the United Nations, who call the military backed annexation of Crimea a violation of international law and dismiss the Crimean secession referendum as a sham.
Obama has threatened further sanctions targeting vital sectors of Russia's economy such as financial services, energy, mining, defense and engineering.
However, it remains unclear if European powers such as Germany and Britain would join in such an escalation because of their stronger economic links with Russia.
What now?
More talks and diplomatic posturing,
The Russian force shift Monday involved several hundred troops at the most, which would be only a fraction of the 40,000 or more estimated to be near the Ukrainian border for what Moscow calls exercises.
That means the next steps occur under the shadow of the Russian forces that U.S. military officials say could launch an incursion on short notice.
Obama's trump card is the possible increased sanctions targeting strategic sectors of the already struggling Russian economy as Moscow assumes greater costs because of the Crimea annexation.
Medvedev said Monday Crimean state salaries and pensions should be raised to Russian levels, as should the pay for military personnel, while compulsory social insurance would be introduced to the region next year.
He also said Moscow would make Crimea a special economic zone and review water supply projects for the region that now gets 90% of its water, 80% of its electricity and roughly 65% of its gas from Ukraine.
A variety of outcomes remain possible, ranging from further Russian military incursions in other ethnic-Russian strongholds in the region to a negotiated political agreement in which Ukraine adopts a new constitution and holds new elections -- almost certainly minus Crimea.

Flying Eagles to play Morocco in friendly

As part of their Africa Youth Championship qualifiers, Garba Manu side will face the Junior Atlas Lions in Casablanca
Nigeria U20 team will play Morocco in a two-legged friendly game to hold in Casablanca next week. The first leg holds on April 9 with the second game holding two days later in the north African country.
The Flying Eagles have been in camp for the final phase of preparations for the Africa Youth Championship and are expected to depart the country for the north African country on Sunday with a 20-man team.
Coach Garba Manu early last week announced a 35-man squad for the country’s qualifying series for the 2015 African Youth Championship to hold in Senegal.
The list was dominated by members of the victorious Golden Eaglets squad to the 2013 Fifa U17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
Nigeria will face either Kenya or Tanzania in May for the 2015 African Youth Championship qualifiers.

Evelyn Nwabuoku: Super Falcons are truly Africa's best

No comments :
country’s senior women national team captain has insisted that the west African powerhouse merited being listed top on the continent by latest FIFA ranking Super fThe alcons captain Evelyn Nwabuoku says Nigeria’s senior women national team is better by far and deserves being ranked best in Africa.
Nwabuoku said that the Falcons still remain best in Africa going by their records at the African Women Championship, after being ranked top in Africa in the latest FIFA rankings released last week.
“We deserve being the best, so much, it is not easy, if you check how many times we have won the AWC, you can see we are still the best on the continent,” Nwabuoku told Goal on her way to resume camp in Abuja.
She blamed the team's dismal outing at the 2012 African Women's Championship in Equatorial Guinea on hard luck, disclaiming links to poor coaching and below par performance from players.
The Falcons finished third in the competition under coach Kadiri Ikhana, the first time they failed to play in the final having won the tournament five times and placed second once.
“I can’t really tell what happened, we had a sound coach, and if it’s for the game we played well, but I could say maybe it was hard luck,” she said.
The midfield maestro who finished runner-up in the Women player of the Year award at the 2013 Nigeria Sports Awards advocated high-profile friendly matches for the senior women side, urging that the provision of top grade tune-up games will avail coaches opportunity to appraise the players regularly.
“We need friendly matches, we ought to play bigger teams, because it’s not about results but about access to your players – you get to know your players and those to rely on during international games.
"You don’t just sit down in camp preparing for competitions playing against the young boys, it is kind of different.
"Like the friendly we played against the Japanese team, we got to know each other more. If we will tell ourselves the truth, we know within ourselves that this is a different Super Falcons,” she noted.
Speaking on what experience the Super Falcons garnered from the two-legged friendly with Japan earlier this year, she admitted they were greatly exposed by the encounter despite losing 2-0.
“We learnt a lot against Japan, just a team that prepared after one month. We can see from the way we were moving the ball around. We really implemented the tactics our coaches taught us. If we continue to get such matches, you get to assess your players more and will really know what you're doing.
“The glory has already come back, like I said earlier – it just has to do with the [Nigeria Football Federation] motivating the players enough, because the women team, sorry to say we are not being motivated. But we thank God for the moments though we still hope for a lot to change,” she said.
On what Nigerians should expect of the current Super Falcons at the 2014 AWC, Nwabuokwu assured that she and her teammates are determined to better their performance in Equatorial Guinea in 2012.
“This is a new team, things have really changed. Some new set of players are coming-in to blend with the old players. We should get better than the last edition. We have coaches who know what they are doing. We have some set of players who are really determined and by the grace of God we should do well,” said the Rivers Angels captain.
The Rivers Angels utility player also appealed to the NFF on getting sponsors for the Nigeria Women Premier League, stressing that securing sponsorship deals will boost the quality, interest and competition.
“If the NFF can get some sponsors for the female league, it will go a long way to improving the standard of women football league in Nigeria,” she concluded.
The Six-time African Champions will host the Indomitable Lioness of Cameroon in a high-profile friendly on April 15 at the Abuja National Stadium in preparation for their final qualifying game of the 2014 African Women’s Championship against the She-Amavubi of Rwanda.

Ross Barkley should snub Man United in favour of Chelsea

No comments :
It will be with an overriding sense of irony that Everton fans will celebrate making the top four if the achieve it this year.
Not only were the Toffees given long odds to continue their characteristically consistent performances in the wake of David Moyes departure, but the loss of Marouane Fellaini was also predicted to hit them hard in the centre of midfield. As is so often the case in modern day football, the naysayers and pre-seasonal prophets could not have been more mistaken.
Following yesterday’s 3-1 win at Craven Cottage, Roberto Martinez’s inspired Everton side sit fifth in the Premier League - four points behind Arsenal with a game in hand. Perhaps more interesting is the fact that they’re a comfortable six points ahead of Manchester United, again with a game in hand.
Though the reasons for their prediction-defying assault on the Champions League spots this term will naturally vary from one fan to the next, in my mind it’s the man who has filled the void left by the aforementioned Fellaini who should be attracting the lion’s share of the plaudits. Of course, I’m talking about Ross Barkley.
The 20-year-old has been nothing short of sensational in his maiden campaign as a regular first-team starter at Goodison Park this season, and his presence in the middle of the park has been widely credited as the energy which has fuelled Everton’s charge for a top four finish. Naturally he’s attracted the attention of a number of the clubs considered to be in the top bracket of English football. Here’s where the irony really hits home - United are amongst them.
In a turn of events which will likely have Everton chiefs rubbing their hands and beaming smiles at one another, United are said to be ready to compete with the likes of Chelsea for the services of Barkley. That’s right, they want the man who replaced the player they bought less than a year ago. Go figure.
But whilst the idea of a move to one of the Premier League’s elite clubs may appeal to Barkley both in terms of the financial incentives and the success he would be given the opportunity to achieve, surely he must see that following his old boss to Old Trafford would no longer provide the step up which would have at one point been deemed elementary in his progression as a player.
The harsh truth is that Everton are now just as good as United in virtually every area of the pitch. Though they can’t boast a world-class strike-force that go by the names of Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie the Merseyside outfit are playing football that’s just as attractive as any showcased under Moyes. Aside from being able to offer him a handsome salary increase, United can’t provide Barkley with much that he hasn’t already got.
On the other hand there’s Chelsea, who could fairly easily deal Martinez a hefty blow. With Jose Mourinho in charge they’re a dead cert to be competing for major honours for the foreseeable future, and their squad has a healthy mix of talent both young and old. In every sense of the word they are a team on the up, regardless as to whether or not they manage to pip Manchester City to the title.
A move to Stamford Bridge would allow Barkley to take the next step in his career, without the risk of joining a side which could so easily find itself struggling next season. No doubt it would mean he would have to fight tooth and nail for every bit of game-time he was afforded, but snubbing United and joining Chelsea is something that the young Everton midfielder should seriously consider if he’s to leave this summer.

Sir Alex Ferguson cost Man United Guardiola?

No comments :
Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola has revealed that he may well have been offered the Manchester United job by Sir Alex Ferguson in 2012, but couldn’t understand the Scot properly.
According to the Mirror the mega-successful Spanish coach told reporters that he went for food with Sir Alex whilst the pair were both in New York in 2012 and that whilst there the then-United head-coach could have offered him his job. At the time Guardiola was taking a year-long sabbatical from football following his now famous reign at Barcelona, where he won two Champions League titles.
Naturally he was billed as a number one candidate to replace Ferguson when the United boss eventually stepped down, but he ended up instead opting to take up Jupp Heynckes position in charge of Bayern Munich. And now the 43-year-old has joked that it could have been Sir Alex’s accent which ultimately led to him opting not to succeed him at Old Trafford.
Guardiola said: “He invited me to a super restaurant and we spent a very good time together.
"My English is not so good and Sir Alex spoke quickly, so sometimes I have a problem understanding him.
"That's why maybe I didn't understand if I received an offer or not! No, it was a friendly dinner, he was very gentle with me.
"He always talks with me like a coach and we spent a very good time together."
Guardiola will go head to head with David Moyes tomorrow in the first-leg of Bayern’s clash with United in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. The German side are overwhelming favourites to progress, but they will need to be wary of complacency against Wayne Rooney and co

Chelsea boss advised to "sell" Hazard & Oscar

No comments :
Former Chelsea boss Rafael Benitez has made the bizarre move of telling his successor to sell two of his best players ahead of the summer transfer window.
According to the Daily Star the Spanish coach had a few words of advice for Jose Mourinho, the bulk of which focused around selling both Eden Hazard and Oscar. The high-flying Chelsea pair, who have both been in sensational form this season, have been targeted by Paris Saint-Germain in recent weeks, and Mourinho responded by insisting that he would only sell them for £300million.
However Benitez thinks that letting go of both men would be a good idea if the Stamford Bridge boss is looking to build a team, and he even went as far as naming the price.
According to the Star Benitez said: “Maybe if Mourinho sells Hazard and Oscar for £300m and builds a team, it will come to something.”
Ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League clash with PSG Mourinho will likely take his counterpart’s comments and disregard them completely, however it is an interesting idea.
Of course both Hazard and Oscar have been key-figures in the Blues squad this term, but would the team benefit from not relying on their individual attributes?

Chelsea to fund £45m move by selling first-team star

No comments :
Chelsea are so desperate to land Manchester United target Diego Costa that they will sell David Luiz in order to fund the purchase, according to reports.
The Mirror claims that Jose Mourinho is prepared to allow his Brazilian defender to leave so that he can have more money to play with in the summer transfer window, and has his eyes firmly set on the acquisition of Atletico Madrid’s high-flying Costa.
The La Liga hit-man, who has scored 33 goals in 43 games in all competitions this season is said to be available for £45million, and Mourinho wants to ensure the move for him would fall into the restrictions set by the Financial Fair Play guidelines.
It is thought that the Blues value Luiz at £35million, and with Barcelona having already registered an interest, they may well be able to offload him fairly easily. The same report suggests that frontman Fernando Torres is also being considered as an money-making option ahead of the upcoming transfer window, though Mourinho may want to land Costa before he starts to sell his strikers.

Manchester United takeover bid fronted by Beckham & Neville

No comments :

The Manchester United "Class of '92" are set to front a multi-billion pound takeover of the club, according to The Sun
Former United players David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt, Gary and Phil Neville, along with current star Ryan Giggs looks set to lead a mega deal bankrolled by Arab oil money.
If reports are to believed, the Glazers - who purchased the Red Devils in 2005 - are ready to sell the Old Trafford outfit.
A source told The Sun: “The Glazers have lost interest. Everyone knows the club is effectively for sale.
“It’s just a question of getting the right price where they recoup their money and make a bit to save face.”
United legend Beckham looks set to play a huge role in the deal, having spent time at Qatari-owned Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain before retiring from the game at the end of the 2012/13 season.
And with the proposed £2bn takeover of Manchester United looking set to be funded by the Qatari royal family, it remains to be seen as to whether Beckham and Co. step up their interest in the club.
Despite Manchester United's on pitch troubles this season, the club rose two percent to $16.14 on the New York Stock Exchange yesterday, meaning United are now valued at $2.6billion.
Manchester United fans, do you think the Glazers should sell? Have your say below!

Huge hits in Texas as the Philadelphia Phillies outscore the Rangers

No comments :
You read it right, the Philadelphia Phillies outscored the Texas Rangers in a night where pitchers probably wanted to leave the Lonestar state.

In a final score of 14-10 to the Phillies, yes that's two lots of double figures, relief pitcher Tanner Scheppers started for the injury riddled Ranger bullpen.
Jimmy Rollins managed to hit a grand slam including his 200th career run, despite Phillies pitcher Cliff Lee also letting the flood gates open.
The Phillies racked up 17 hits overall and the run tally is their most in 114 years.
The Rangers has earlier hit a three run homer but were completely outgunned in the end.
This the second biggest runs tally in the Phillies Franchise history and Rollins is only the second player to hit a grand slam for the franchise in the last 100 years.
Same again tomorrow? The Rangers will certainly hope not after tonight's series starter.

Police Smash Baby-Making Factory In Ogun State Nigeria

No comments :
The Ogun State Police Command, yesterday paraded 10 suspects over their involvement in the running of a baby making factory located at Sebanjo Crescent, Fagbunle Bus Stop at Akute area of the state.
Eight of the suspects were pregnant ladies between the ages of 16 and 21.
It was learnt that the factory was being operated by the prime suspect, Angela Chidozie, who also lived in the four-bedroom bungalow with her husband and children. Her husband is said to be currently at large.
Briefing newsmen on Friday, the state Police Commissioner, Mr. Ikemefuna Okota, said the arrest was made possible tips from the host community.
He said, “I have stressed the importance of community policing.  We got information yesterday that Chidozie was keeping pregnant juveniles in her house.
“After the mothers give birth, Chidozie would sell the babies for N3m or more while the mother of each child would be given a pittance. When we got to Chidozie’s house yesterday, there was no one in sight. We left and when we later returned, we discovered that five of the girls were hiding in one room.
“They were immediately taken into custody. Three more girls were later discovered to have been hiding in a wardrobe in one of the rooms by the policemen that we left behind. In fact, one of them fainted and had to be rushed to the hospital”.
Chidozie was, however, later discovered in a dilapidated wooden building in the vast compound where she reportedly hid.
Okoye added, “Some syringes and herbal medications were recovered from the scene. Investigation is on to unravel Chidozie’s partners because she was definitely not working alone”.
Chidozie, an indigene of Abia state in her defence denied running a baby making factory because according to her, the girls were impregnated before they came to her for assistance.
She said, “I have been in this business since last year; I also combine it with herbal medicine. These girls came to me on their own to assist them sell their babies and I sell each for N100, 000 to childless couples. I have sold five babies so far. Sokoto Sultanate Council Refutes Senator Maccido’s Claim

No comments :
The Sultanate Council of Sokoto has refuted a claim attributed to Sen. Ahmed Mohammed Maccido (PDP-Sokoto), to the effect that he is representing the Caliphate in the Senate.
Information Nigeria reports that Senator Maccido, who represents Sokoto Central Senatorial District, had claimed that even if he does not win re-election next year, the Sokoto Caliphate, which he represents in the upper chamber of the National Assembly, would still remain relevant as it is an institution that is over 200 years old. He was responding to speculations that Governor Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State is eyeing his seat.
But the Sultanate in a statement signed by Alhaji Attahiru Hussaini, the Secretary of the council, and made available to newsmen in Sokoto on Saturday, said, “The attention of the Sultanate council of Sokoto has been drawn to a recent publication credited to the Distinguished Senator Ahmed Maccido, representing Sokoto Central Senatorial District.
“In the said publication, Senator Ahmed Maccido claimed to be the representative of the Sokoto Caliphate.
“The Sultanate council wishes to categorically disassociate itself from all comments and assumptions made by the Distinguished Senator”

“He only drinks water and the watered-down orange juice they give him. They slide him peanut butter and jelly sandwiches or bread with some five-year-old baloney, but he doesn’t eat that. He wouldn’t even let his dogs eat that. Chris is suffering. He’s going crazy. He has been stripped of everything. He doesn’t even have underwear on. He’s got nothing and no one.”

[CELEBRITY BIO] Paul & Peter Okoye a.k.a. P-Square’s Full Biography

No comments :

P-Square are a Nigerian R&B duo composed of identical twin brothers Peter and Paul Okoye. They produce and release their albums through Square Records. In December 2011, they were also signed to Akon’s Konvict Muzik label. In May 2012, they also signed a record distribution deal with Universal Music South Africa.

History
The story of P-Square began in St. Murumba secondary school, a small Catholic school in Jos, Nigeria. Identical twins Peter and Paul joined their school music and drama club where they began singing, dancing, and mimicking songs by MC Hammer, Bobby Brown and Michael Jackson.
They later formed an a cappella quartet called “MMMPP” (M Clef a.k.a. Itemoh, Michael, Melvin, Peter and Paul). Drawing inspiration from their music idol Michael Jackson, they began break dancing, formed the group called “Smooth Criminals” in 1997. They dropped M Clef from the group “MMMPP” which later was changed to “MMPP”. Their artistic talent and precise dance routine soon made them household names in the city of Jos, where they performed at school functions and other occasions.
Later in 1999, Peter and Paul returned to music school to develop their skills on keyboard, drums, bass and rhythm guitar. Their work includes the soundtracks for a number of films like Tobi, Mama Sunday, Moment of Bitterness and Evas River.
Later in 1999, they applied to the University of Abuja to study Business Administration. The Smooth Criminals disbanded when its members left to various other universities. Subsequently Peter and Paul formed their own group, variously called “Double P”, “P&P”, and “Da Pees”, until they eventually settled on “P Square”. They are managed by Bayo Odusami aka Howie T, a seasoned concert promoter and the CEO of Adrot Nigeria Limited.
In 2001, “P-Square” won the “Grab Da Mic” competition, and hence Benson & Hedges sponsored their debut album, titled Last Nite, which was released under Timbuk2 music label. P-Square was also nominated as “Most Promising African Group” in the Kora Awards three months after the release of their debut album. They eventually won the 2003 Amen Award for “Best R&B Group”.
In 2005, P Square released their second album, Get Squared under their own label, Square Records. This album was marketed nationwide by TJoe Enterprises, although they were still managed by Howie T of Adrot Nigeria Limited. The video for the second album held the #1 position on the MTV Base chart for four straight weeks.
They have an ever growing fan base across South Africa with a particular stronghold of die hard fans in Cape Town.
The group has performed alongside the following international artists like Ginuwine, Sean Paul, Akon and Busola Keshiro. The members of P Square are now located in Lagos.
Late in 2007, they released their best selling album so far, Game Over. It has sold 8 million copies worldwide.
In 2009, P-Square released their fourth studio album, Danger. The album features collaborations with 2 Face Idibia, J Martins and Frenzy. The first single called “Danger” is a hip hop song with cutting synths and a frog bass baseline similar to an Eminem song. The video affirms this with the presence of clowns and staggered movements in front of the camera reminiscent of comical videos by Eminem. They are also known for the close resemblance which the twins have to American R&B Superstar, Usher Raymond.
On 4 April 2010, P-Square was named the Artist of the Year at the KORA All Africa Music Awards in Ouagadougou, Burkina-Faso while they were in London for a Concert at the Troxy, and they received a whopping sum of $1 Million Dollars as the Award Winners, in Ebebiyin City.
Controversies
The duo are reported to handle most of their production/beat making in house. The band has been faced with many controversies for their habit of sampling western songs and popular hits in their records. They have addressed the issue many times in interviews as well as in the lyrics of their songs. Technically speaking, P Square does more in the line of reconstructing the drum patterns, chord progressions or lyrics of the sampled songs as against actually cutting parts of the song and directly sampling into their production. This accounts for the largely electronic feel of their sound.
Some of the songs which have been called up on this account include “Get Squared”, “Game Over”, “Danger” and others.
P-Square attracted headlines because they reportedly turned irate when they were notified by organisers in the middle of their performance at the Guinness Show about some change in plans which would affect the length of their performance, and that of the next act, 2 Face Idibia. As reported by a news site vanguardngr.com, the info apparently stirred up resentment as Peter immediately said “I don’t know why, anytime a foreign artiste comes to Nigeria, they (show organizers) wanna treat us like slaves in our country”. Although initially they continued their performance but midway through, they threw their microphones to the ground and angrily stormed out of the stage saying, “We are leaving; they don’t want 2face to come on stage”. They were said to have immediately left the premises of the show, but after intervention of the show organisers, they came on stage later with 2face for a performance, but later on were apologised to.
Paul Okoye, one half of the musical duo, P-Square, was involved in a paternity scandal with a lady named Elshamah Igbanoi. The lady claimed Paul impregnated her; Paul denied the pregnancy and went for a paternity test.
Personal life
On 8 August 2013, Peter Okoye got engaged to his long time girlfriend, Lola Omotayo. On November 17, 2013, the two held their traditional wedding at The Ark in Lekki, Lagos, Nigeria. Public figures who attended the wedding include Aliko Dangote, Emmanuel Adebayor, Kate Henshaw, Genevieve Nnaji, Rukky Sanda, Folorunsho Alakija, May D, Toke Makinwa, Dr SID, Don Jazzy, and Karen Igho among others.

Woman accused of stealing husband’s N2.8m SUV

No comments :

The defendant, who is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing preferred against her, was docked before Magistrate Abimbola Komolafe.

Nnamonu said the accused stole a Toyota Highlander jeep number plate JJJ 184 AJ, valued N2.8 million, belonging to one Aloy Obi.
The prosecutor said that the offence committed is punishable under Sections 409 and 285 of the criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.

[Sport] Jese injury shows that record-chaser Ronaldo should have been rested

No comments :

As it turned out, Cristiano Ronaldo was Real Madrid’s hero once more on Tuesday as they completed a convincing Champions League win over Schalke, but the serious injury sustained by team-mate Jese showed why the Portuguese superstar shouldn’t have been playing in the first place.
The 3-1 second-leg victory was largely irrelevant in the wider context, with the plight of the 21-year-old in the forefront of most people’s minds amidst reports he has damaged cruciate ligaments in his right knee.
But what the misfortune of the young Spaniard did highlight was the fact that accidents can happen at any time, and Carlo Ancelotti’s decision to play Ronaldo for the full 90 minutes despite already having a five-goal buffer could easily have seen Madrid suffer an even bigger loss. It also brought into question the real motivation for coach and player five days before a crucial Clasico encounter against Barcelona.

If it is records Ronaldo is after, he’s doing a very good job. His brace against Schalke takes him to 13 Champions League goals this term, putting him just one behind Lionel Messi’s high mark in 2011-12. He also went level with Ferenc Puskas in fourth place on the list of Real Madrid’s greatest ever goalscorers with 242. As a record-breaker, he is pretty much unstoppable.
But one way his seemingly inexorable run of goalscoring form could come to an end is by injury, and had it been Ronaldo on the end of Sead Kolasinac’s second-minute challenge rather than Jese, then Madrid’s season could suddenly have been thrown into turmoil.
Losing Jese is undoubtedly a huge blow to the club as they look to continue his development into a world class footballer, but the loss of Ronaldo would have had far greater connotations over the remainder of the season.
Jese was brought in alongside the likes of Nacho, Asier Illarramendi, Isco and Fabio Coentrao to protect the star investments that will be expected to line up against Barcelona on Sunday. Yet the biggest asset of them all, the one man whose presence on Sunday and beyond will give them an infinitely greater chance of a fantastic treble, was out there for the full 90 minutes.
Risking the Ballon d’Or winner for a dead rubber made no sense from the club’s point of view. The very fact that the likes of Angel di Maria, Gareth Bale, Pepe and Luka Modric were not in the starting XI was proof that Carlo Ancelotti knew it too. But Ronaldo’s quest for history is seemingly bigger than the club.
What would have been the fallout had Ronaldo been the one stretchered off five minutes into a game Madrid already led 6-1 and missed the Clasico, the Liga run, the Copa del Rey final and the Champions League’s business end as a result? It would have been unthinkable.
Instead Ronaldo continues to play every minute he can in a bid to prove that he can outscore, outrun and outmuscle everyone else. So far, Madrid have got away with it. So far!
If you continually play with fire, you will almost certainly get burnt in the end. Madrid just got lucky that this time they came away unscathed, five days before the world’s biggest fireworks display comes to town .

Oscar Pistorius to sell house where he shot Reeva to cover legal fees

Paralympian plans to sell the upmarket Pretoria house where he shot dead his girlfriend last year to cover the legal fees for his murder trial.

Oscar Pistorius plans to sell the upmarket £278,000 Pretoria house where he shot dead his girlfriend last year to cover the legal fees for his murder trial, according to his lawyer.
"It has become necessary to sell Mr Pistorius's home in the Silver Woods Country Estate in Pretoria in order for him to raise the necessary funds to cover his increasing legal costs," the 27-year-old's lawyer Brian Webber said in a statement.
"This is due to the unexpected extension of the trial beyond the initial three-week period for which it was originally set down."
Estate agent Ansie Louw, who is handling the sale, told AFP the house will be sold in a closed bid, starting at five million rand (£278,000).
The Paralympic athlete has been paying his own legal fees since he shot dead Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine's Day last year, according to the statement.
The authorities turned the runner's home in the gated community back over to him over a year ago and he had planned to keep it sealed until the trial finished.
"He has been forced to revisit this decision," according to Mr Webber, who said the statement was meant to preempt media speculation about the sale.
Pistorius valued the house at five million rand during his bail application in February last year.
At the time he also owned two other houses with a combined value of 1.5 million rand in Pretoria and a vacant plot worth 1.6 million rand in Cape Town.
All his properties together were worth 8.3 million rand, the sporting hero told the court.
Pistorius earned world-wide fame as the "Blade Runner" for running on two carbon fibre blades, after both his legs were amputated below the knee when he was born without fibulae.
He became the first double amputee to compete with able-bodied athletes at the London 2012 Olympics.
But he has fallen on hard times since the shooting, and lost many of the endorsement deals that earned him some $510,000 a year.
His trial opened on March 3, and witnesses have testified to hearing a woman's terrified screams in the dead of night, followed by gunshots.
A police ballistics expert said Thursday the first shot from Pistorius's 9-millimetre pistol shattered Miss Steenkamp's hip bone. She then fell over and was struck in the head by another bullet.
The trial resumes Monday.

[Sport] Fiorentina vs Juventus Report

Fiorentina 0-1 Juventus (Agg 1-2): Pirlo pearler sends Conte's side through

The veteran struck a sublime free kick after Gonzalo Rodriguez was sent off to secure a quarter-final spot for the Italian champions

Juventus sealed a 2-1 aggregate win over bitter Italian rivals Fiorentina after Andrea Pirlo's superb strike gave them a 1-0 win at the Artemio Franchi on Thursday.
Pirlo has won every major Italian domestic trophy and has experienced much success in European football, but has yet to taste glory in the continent's second tier competition.

But the 34-year-old's hopes of adding that trophy to his list of honours are still intact after he helped Juve overcome Fiorentina for the second time this month, scoring from a free kick again after netting a late winner against Genoa in similar fashion at the weekend.

Juve beat Vincenzo Montella's men 1-0 in Serie A, but it was the hosts who held a potentially crucial away goal going into the game after a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Turin.

Fiorentina had dictated play for much of Thursday's encounter, but the last-16 tie turned midway through the second half when the Florence club saw skipper Gonzalo Rodriguez dismissed after conceding the crucial free kick on the edge of the area.

Pirlo capitalised on the opportunity presented to him, finding the top corner from the set-piece to seal progress to the quarter-finals for Antonio Conte's men 2-1 on aggregate.

Carlos Tevez returned to the Juve starting XI after missing the first leg and the win over Genoa on Sunday, while Mario Gomez was preferred to Alessandro Matri at the head of the Fiorentina attack.

Fiorentina almost made the ideal start inside the first two minutes when Gomez – who scored the equaliser in the first encounter - raced through on goal, but the German could only scuff his shot wide.

The visitors gradually worked their way into the game, although Juve struggled to create any goalscoring opportunities in the first half.

Instead, it was Montella's men who continued to look the more dangerous, David Pizarro's long-range drive forcing Juve goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon into a fine reflex save just before the half-hour mark.

Tevez and Paul Pogba then drew routine saves from Neto in the Fiorentina goal, before Pirlo curled over with an ambitious free kick from range.

Buffon was the busier of the two keepers for much of the encounter and needed to be on his guard again to keep out a powerful swerving strike from Juan Cuadrado early in the second half.

Yet Juve remained a threat, spurning a glorious opportunity as Arturo Vidal headed narrowly over from Chilean compatriot Mauricio Isla.

However, Juve's hopes were significantly boosted on 69 minutes as Rodriguez was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Fernando Llorente.

And Conte's men immediately took advantage as Pirlo slammed the resulting free kick into the top corner beyond a helpless Neto.

From there Juve were able to take complete control of the contest and were denied a second when Neto produced a fantastic stop from Tevez's close-range header, but the Italian champions held on to maintain their hopes of reaching the final on home turf.

This New Natural Testosterone Booster Has Men Everywhere Raving

No comments :
Wow... I'm getting old.
It's a disturbing thought, one that usually hits after an unexpected physical challenge — like weaker workouts, slower recovery, or not performing in the bedroom the way you used to.
And though you may not "feel old," you know you don't look or feel like the man you used to be.
The issue? You might not have enough free testosterone
A person's bloodstream contains two types of testosterone: bonded testosterone and free testosterone. Bonded testosterone attaches to molecules in the body and is mostly ineffective. However, free testosterone can enter your cells easily and plays a vital role in libido, strength, stamina, and vitality.
While the market is flooded with questionable options for increasing a man's free testosterone levels, a group of researchers in Boston, Massachusetts have developed a dietary supplement that's different. It triggers the body to increase its levels of free testosterone naturally and safely.
Called Nugenix, the supplement primarily relies on an ingredient called Testofen®, which has been shown in clinical trials to boost free testosterone levels, increase sex drive, and improve libido. Adding to Nugenix's potency are additional key ingredients like zinc and vitamins B12 and B6, which have been shown to improve physical performance and strength, increase drive, and aid in recovery.
Nugenix has no harmful side effects, and has been shown to deliver improvements in strength and endurance in as little as a week. According to studies held in both Irvine, California and Queensland, Australia, users reported greater muscle definition and quicker recovery times, increased sex drive, and feelings of alertness.

Galaxy S5 vs iPhone 5s - specs comparison; [Tech Review]

No comments :
The iPhone 5s is considerably smaller and lighter than the Galaxy S5
With only a few weeks to go until Samsung's new flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5 arrives, we've been crunching the numbers to see how it stacks up against the current crop of high-end handsets from other manufacturers. This week it's Apple's turn, as we compare the Galaxy S5 to the venerable iPhone 5s.
This is purely a specification comparison, highlighting the differences as they stand. We've included benchmark figures where we have them for Samsung's (still unreleased) handset to highlight any differences in performance. Until we get the Samsung Galaxy S5 in for a full review, however, it's impossible to judge things like screen quality, battery life and camera image quality. We'll be waiting until early April, when the Galaxy S5 officially launches, to deliver our final verdict. In the meantime you can decide whether the S5 will be worth waiting for, based on its specs, or whether you should pick up an iPhone 5S on contract today.

SIZE AND WEIGHT

Dimensions: The iPhone 5s looks tiny compared to most smartphones. It weighs 112g and measures 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6mm. The Galaxy S5 is considerably larger and heavier, weighing 145g and measuring 73x142x8.1mm.
Materials: Apple has always been top when it comes to smartphone design and the iPhone 5s is no different. The iPhone 5s is made from anodized aluminium with diamond cut chamfered edges. It is available in gold, silver and grey. The Galaxy S5 has dimpled soft-touch plastic on the back, which gives it more grip. The plain black finish on the front looks stylish, too, although the silver metal effect trim around the edges remains. Unfortunately the handset is still made from plastic, rather than metal.

SCREEN

Screen size: The iPhone 5s has a 4in display, which is beginning to look very small when held side-by-side with big-screen Android devices. The 16:9 aspect ratio means it's tall but thin, so your thumb can comfortably reach from the bottom left corner all the way up to the top right. The bezels at either side are a rather slim 4mm thick, meaning 60.6% of the entire front surface is comprised of screen.

The Galaxy S5, meanwhile, has a massive 5.1in screen which makes the iPhone 5s look tiny by comparison. The exterior bezels are slightly thinner too, at 3mm each side. The aspect ratio is also 16:9, but because of the size difference people with smaller hands may struggle to reach the very top of the screen with one hand.
Both phones use Corning Gorilla Glass to protect the panel from scratches.
Resolution: The iPhone 5s has a screen resolution of 1,136x640 - an odd size which is a relic of older iOS devices. That means it is unable to play Full HD video, or even 720p footage at its native resolution, but a 377ppi pixel density means it is still impossible to see individual pixels from an average viewing distance.
The Galaxy S5 has a 1,920x1,080 Full HD resolution display, with a pixel density of 432PPI - despite the larger screen, the pixels are packed in more tightly than on the iPhone. It can play Full HD video at its native resolution, without having to downscale the picture in software.
Screen technology: Apple has always used LCD technology in its iPhones, which is able to produce significantly brighter images than competing technologies. We measured the iPhone 5s' peak brightness at a massive 505cd/m2, which is almost double that of Samsung's current generation Galaxy S4 - simply put, the iPhone 5s is brighter and produces whiter whites.
Samsung has used AMOLED screen technology in almost all of its flagship smartphones, and the Galaxy S5 is no exception. It has several advantages over LCD technology; individual pixels can be turned off when displaying absolute black images, so AMOLED screens have use less power when displaying them. Contrast ratios are significantly higher than LCD screens too.
The Galaxy S5 arranges its sub pixels in a pentile arrangement, interleaving green pixels between alternating red and blue pixels, whereas the iPhone 5s uses three sub-pixels (red, green and blue) for every pixel. This arguably means the iPhone doesn't need as high a resolution to make text and images look as sharp as the Galaxy S5, but in practice we think the Galaxy S5 looks sharper.

PERFORMANCE

Processor: The iPhone 5s has an ARM v8-based 1.3GHz dual-core processor. This translates to an excellent score of 416ms in the SunSpider JavaScript test. The Galaxy S5 has a Snapdragon 801 processor running at 2.5GHz, which translates to speedy benchmark scores. In the SunSpider JavaScript test, the S5 completed the benchmark in 408ms. Graphics: The iPhone 5s has a PowerVR G6430 GPU. It is one of the best performing phones we’ve ever tested, maxing out both the 3D Mark Ice Storm Standard and Extreme Tests. It scored a very impressive 14,506 in the Ice Storm Unlimited test. The Galaxy S5 has a faster Adreno 330 GPU, which scores 18,438 in the same test. This makes it significantly faster when it comes to games.
Memory: Apple has included just 1GB of RAM in the iPhone 5s, but despite the low number that’s still more than adequate. Samsung has bettered Apple by sticking 2GB of RAM into the Galaxy S5.
Storage: There are three versions of the iPhone 5s – 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. By comparison the Galaxy S5 only comes in 16GB and 32GB versions, with no 64GB version planned at launch. It does at least have a microSD card slot, which supports up to 128GB cards.
Battery: The combination of the new processor, M7 motion process and a large 1,560mAh battery all mean that the iPhone 5S has excellent battery life. At half brightness with Wi-Fi turned off, our iPhone 5S lasted 14h 31m in our video playback test. The Galaxy S5 has a large 2,800mAh battery. Samsung says the S5 should manage 21 hours of 3G talk time from a single charge, but that's unlikely to account for the screen being on.

CAMERA

The iPhone 5s has a 8-megapixel, back side illuminated (BSI) rear camera sensor, which is paired with a dual LED flash. It captures 3264 x 2448 resolution stills and records Full HD video at 30fps, with a slow motion function. The 1/3in sensor has 1.5µm pixels, which are significantly larger than most smartphone cameras to capture more light information. The Galaxy S5 has a 1/2.6in sensor with 1.241µm pixels. Despite having a larger 16-megapixel sensor, cramming more pixels into a smaller surface area won't necessarily increase picture quality over the iPhone. The S5's camera also uses the new ISOCELL sensor technology, which reduces the crop factor of the final image and improves dynamic range by preventing light leaking from one pixel to another. It shoots 4,640x3,480 (16.15-megapixel) stills and records 1080p video at 60fps. It is also able to record Ultra HD (4K) 3,840x2,160 video at 30fps and shoot video in high definition.
From the specs, the S5 (right) has more raw pixels than the iPhone 5s (left), but low light performance remains to be seen
On paper, the Galaxy S5 has a better front-facing camera - it uses a two megapixel sensor that can record video chat in 1080p at 30fps, compared to the 1.2-megapixel webcam in the iPhone 5s which can only manage 720p FaceTime video at 30fps

FEATURES

Apple was the first manufacturer to add a fingerprint sensor to a smartphone, fitting a TouchID sensor to the iPhone 5s. It can be used to unlock the phone, or confirm payment when making purchases on the App store, but no other apps support it yet because Apple hasn't made the API public. The Galaxy S5 now has its own fingerprint sensor, which is built into the home button. Rather than press and hold, you have to swipe your finger across the button to authorise PayPal transactions, protect files or folders and unlock the handset.
The Galaxy S5 is heavily targeted towards fitness, with ANT+ support for connecting a heart rate monitor or pedometer, and a heart rate sensor built into the back of the phone. It is also water- and dust-resistant. It is also compatible with Samsung's wearable range, including the original Galaxy Gear, new Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo, and Gear Fit smart band.

SOFTWARE

One of the biggest differences between the Galaxy S5 and the iPhone 5s isn't physical - it's in the software. The iPhone runs Apple's iOS operating system, while the Galaxy 5S uses a heavily customised version of Apple's Android.

In its first few years, Android had significantly fewer apps than iOS, but now virtually every major brand or developer makes their apps simultaneously for both platforms. There are few, if any platform exclusives any more, and Android has never been easier to use, so if you aren't familiar with either operating system, software is no longer a reason to choose one phone over the other.
There are too many differences between the two operating systems to go into here - for a more detailed breakdown of the features and issues with each one, read our iOS and Android reviews.

4G and Wi-Fi

Both the Galaxy S5 and iPhone 5s support all major 2G, 3G and 4G LTE frequency bands, although the S5 supports the faster LTE Category 4 and LTE-Advanced modes while the iPhone 5s makes do with LTE Category 3. When it first launched the iPhone 5S unable to use O2's 4G network, but this was a certification issue and not a hardware problem - it is now compatible with every 4G network here in the UK, and we expect the S5 to be the same when it arrives. The iPhone 5s only supports 802.11n Wi-Fi, whereas the Galaxy S5 supports the faster 802.11ac version. They both support Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS geo-location, but the Galaxy S5 has both NFC and an Infra-red blaster for controlling TVs or other home cinema equipment.
Samsung has moved from standard micro USB to a micro USB3 port on the Galaxy S5, but Apple uses its own proprietary Lightning connector. Both phones use the newer, smaller nano SIM standard, which Apple introduced with the iPhone 5.
