Chelsea to fund £45m move by selling first-team star
Chelsea are so desperate to land Manchester
United target Diego Costa that they will sell David Luiz in order to
fund the purchase, according to reports.
The Mirror claims that Jose
Mourinho is prepared to allow his Brazilian defender to leave so that
he can have more money to play with in the summer transfer window, and
has his eyes firmly set on the acquisition of Atletico Madrid’s
high-flying Costa. The La Liga hit-man, who has scored 33 goals in 43 games in all competitions this season is said to be available for £45million, and Mourinho wants to ensure the move for him would fall into the restrictions set by the Financial Fair Play guidelines.
It is thought that the Blues value Luiz at £35million, and with Barcelona having already registered an interest, they may well be able to offload him fairly easily. The same report suggests that frontman Fernando Torres is also being considered as an money-making option ahead of the upcoming transfer window, though Mourinho may want to land Costa before he starts to sell his strikers.
